Ten years ago, I would have been so excited.
... now I just want franchises to *end.*
Let there be new room for new stories. We can't keep coming back to the same well over and over again. Avatar had a great run back in the 00s, and Korra... Korra tried!

On the other hand, I want Avatar to succeed as a franchise that's only 20 years old in an era where most of the big franchises are somewhere between 40 and 90 years old. And as a franchise that inherently stands in opposition to current "anti-woke" trends.
But man.
I wish it didn't have to be this way. Bloody capitalism.
I agree with your point, and I'm also just tired of being promised nostalgia bait.
spielberg has a big filmography of varying quality. but the idea of a dude who makes mostly standalone films with huge budgets.
now half the box office gotta be MCU or a sequel to an existing franchise.
There is far less space for that sort of director in the box office now compared to the past. Speaking strictly in terms of big budget films.
Half of the screens in a theater these days seem dedicated to Disney franchise shit.
