I don’t really know about that reasoning though (I know you didn’t make this up ☺️). We’ve played Fox non-stop ever since she arrived, one could argue it’s a similar case given the NWSL schedule.

I’d counter that Fox was out-of-the box, ready to go, in terms of her level and her ability to slot into the team (she is an exceptional talent, after all 😁). I don’t think Rosa came to us at that level with the ability to do that. But we shall see. I’d love to see Rosa start tonight.
Yes main reason will be tactical, Rosa does lose the ball a lot and doesn’t really get it back. Tough to have her and Mariona in the same team at the moment. It’s why I’d like to see her out wide, where losing it is less consequential.
I hope we see Foord - Maanum - Kafaji tonight. Then probably Foord - Mariona - Mead vs Chelsea. That would make sense to me in terms of rotation and allay some worries about our wide options.
This seems to be more logical for me. Working on her retention+dueling skills, and hopefully once we see that improve, we’ll get a glimpse of more of the proper player. I also wonder if she’ll get a chance as a 10 with a Wally/Kim double pivot, as that would give a lot of backbone+sweeping up help.
yes and reality is that market for talented young players is so competitive that you buy a player before they are ready and polish them up and take a bit of early pain or you don't get them and other big clubs will take them.
Problem with that though is you can end up in a Kuhl or Gio scenario, where there isn’t a space in the squad to integrate the player, or the player isn’t ready to be integrated at that time, they get frustrated and leave the club, putting us back to square one.
that is how it is with signing young players, very similar to the academy, most won't make it but you keep going because the few that do are incredibly valuable.
Often times that’s the risk you take. Happens with elite teams all the time, and has happened to us a million times in our history. Unfortunately it’s part and parcel of the game. The best players (a la Pelova) make themselves undroppable.
It seems to me that perhaps Arsenal should have sent Kafaji out on loan for this season. Sign and loan is something Chelsea have been doing a lot of (to varying degrees of success), and Arsenal tried but did not stick to with Gio. Do you know why Arsenal haven't tried it more?
Chelsea has been doing that to make up for the failure of an academy. They have 1 player legitimately come from through. They have signed so many 18 y/o that have gone out on loan for 3/4 years that still have zero first team minutes. It doesn't always work. Rosa is already 21. She just needs time
I’ve understood that the reason we didn’t play Kafaji much until now was that she would not have a long season, so from a player welfare perspective. This was why I mentioned Fox as an example - she’s had a 2 year long season almost. I just don’t buy into that narrative. (1/2)
