Why would you deprive children of museum and theatre trips? And leave it to the middle and upper classes?! Jam making is not a preserve of the upper classes either. (No pun intended) Certainly outside of London it isn’t. 🤷🏼♀️

Suspect this was badly reported to heighten the absurdity of the proposals. But yes, ‘lets not take deprived kids to the theatre they might learn to like it the scum’ isn’t a great take, is it? Or one some of our best actors and playwrights would have benefited from.
This isn't is, but there are definitely schools that use a reputation for taking expensive extra-curricular trips to engineer their intake (see skiing holidays).
Let’s not have aspirations or dreams or value the imagination. Theatre, like literature, is partly about providing different ways of seeing the world and help individuals in the struggle to make sense of love and death. Why stop at theatre? Perhaps Keats or Milton or Hardy are middle class too?
Instead of jam making being an oddity, they should give proper basic cooking classes to all. Introduce the subject of good nutrition and cooking skills as early as possible.
The headline is misleading as the story is not about the curriculum but about exam questions. E.g. if you use skiing holidays as a context to assess numeracy, then you might inadvertently be measuring life experience rather than maths.
As a school teacher in a comprehensive school I organised many theatre trips with my colleagues for children from deprived or certainly not affluent backgrounds who experienced memorable theatre trips - from Godber to Shakespeare. The majority would never ever visit a theatre unless with the school.
Aged 13(ish) I went to Paris with school. My first time abroad! The Louvre made an impression as did fresh baguettes. Growing up on white sliced bread & marge I was in heaven 😂
Why shouldn’t poorer kids get opportunities like a ski trip? Surely the power of bulk buying helps, and with some planning starting fundraising for it at the beginning of the school year would help too.
Why should winter sports be the preserve of the rich?

Absolutely baffling stance.
I don’t take orders from random men online. Have a nice evening.
