Not onlty did "we" have no realistic shot, but reports have dribbled out that the Phillies were the only team theoretically in play for him, with whom he did not even want to take a Meeting. Not sure who would've been harboring any hope.
When are the Phillies gonna crack this nut? They can’t seem to get the Japanese players to even consider them. The west coast seems to have massive geographical advantage, but some other east coast teams have made progress.
I don’t know what they can do and what is out of their control. From what I have heard Philly itself from a flight and community side isn’t really Japan friendly. Them winning should help, but they also probably need to sign or trade for someone who has a positive experience.
I thought for a minute that Suzuki from the Cubs would be a fit for that reason as well as the OF need. But they’d have to make an effort to provide good support for him. Infrastructure, additional Japanese staff, maybe a minor signing or two. See if the guy has a BFF, haha.
