Visa must have been pissing a lot of card providers and retailers over here in the UK (and possibly Europe too) because at the beginning of last year, my banks (multiple) changed their Visa debit cards to MasterCard...

I've been asked that and I don't know the answer.

However, a debit card doesn't rely on credit, it's simply an access key. Unless you ALSO use it as a credit card

Ah, debit. misread.
Not sure if it applies, since a debit card is not a credit card, but more of an access card. I you also use it for credit purchases, I would stop doing that.
