Can I just say - as someone who has spent a lot of time thinking about this - that many of you really are very negative.
Not that there aren’t severe problems, but is that really all that defines the U.K.? Doom, end times, isolation?

Let‘s play a little game, please.
Describe the U.K. in one word.
Humour welcome, rudeness isn‘t.

(That’s a German word.)
Blitz spirit, chin-up, keep calm and carry on.
There's nothing that 70 million cuppas and a quiet chat can't fix.
Friable.
Maybe something else will occur to me. But that will do for now. Means easily crumbled or pulverised.
Which means "Stop waisting my time, you bloody idiot.“

Servicing the debt racked up in the last 15 years?
The media are relentless in their complaints and negativity. It makes for a gloomy picture.
Coming on the back of Brexit and Covid, the population are very tired.
It was still better then
Trying to find a word that captures age and slight decay but also sturdiness.
Loads of fab culture, museums et al.
But the island "we're still the greatest" just drives you insane.
That was then, but they can't leave it behind now.
Unreal superiority complex.
And the weather is pants.
The state, the governmance structures, the insane anachronistic sham of a democracy pantomime and it's results.
Not so much.
There's a Weltweh among liberal Western Europeans that is coinciding with our nations' flirting with no-nothing populists and their simplistic answers.
The public are, as a rule, so sooooo bored
Brexit obviously was a costly and terrible mistake, but its not like we didn't warn them bloody often enough.
So I’m thankful I’m British!
