I want to argue that Peter F Hamilton's "Pandora's Star" series is the Lord of the Rings of Science Fiction, but then that means his "Reality Disfunction" trilogy is The Hobbit of science fiction and honestly I think there's just too much Satanism & Al Capone in it for that analogy to work

I found Dune (1st book) was terrible for that but by the end of Dune Messiah (2nd book) it didn't feel like Paul was supposed to be this shining hero any more. So that helps.

Tho in all of the original author's books the bene gesserit are always followed by a cloud of authorial resentment. So idk
