Does anyone else get anxious about starting the biggest and most hyped up books incase they end up feeling disappointing somehow, even if you KNOW you will like them?

Nope! All art is subjective. I always just go in with an open mind with any form of popular media, and if I like it or not is my own opinion, and no more or less valid than anyone else’s opinion, except to me.
No, I totally get it, to an extent it’s about wanting to like what was suggested to you, and by extension connecting more with the people who suggested it.
But instead of worrying about if you’ll like it or not, the act of reading it is the real connection, not whatever your opinion is at the end.
My trouble is finishing them, I'll start a book, movie, show, and really enjoy it then drop it completely so it can't disappoint me. I'm usually good about picking things back up but I haven't seen the last season of GOT and people tell me that's probably a benefit.
There's a cure for this. Go on TikTok and watch morons gush about Colleen Hoover books. Then read them. Repeat this process for each of her books and you'll never feel bad about possibly hating something popular again.
LMAO !!! Ahh !!! I just screamed at this, SEE the only Colleen Hoover book I have is Verity but I actually think I would like it 🫣 also booktok can actually be good if you only follow small creators who talk about your niche faves (I love extreme horror!)
If you must read one of her books, that's the one. Extreme horror can be fun, and even something as harrowing as "What Good Girls Do" or "In the Wolves' Den" isn't as problematic as some of her stuff.
I've got tonnes of books and podcasts I'm desparate to read and listen too, but my AuDHD freezes me from tackling them! I end up reading and listening to the stuff that's further down my list! Madness.
I have recently just started reading what interests me mostly older books—I have stopped reading reviews and if I don’t like the book I move on. Used to read bestsellers, trending but trying something different. I have found I really like old memoirs-reading Ann Margaret’s now.
If anybody hypes a book, show, or movie to me I will refuse to partake in it until I know longer remember the hype. Can’t be disappointed if I can’t remember!
