In the latest assault on First Amendment rights, Columbia University has expelled and fired Grant Miner, President of UAW Local 2710, which represents thousands of Columbia student workers. The firing comes one day before contract negotiations were set to open with the University.
That’s interesting. I just know from my own situation in Manitoba as a teacher that our union leader was elected by the teacher reps and all union wages etc paid for by union dues from members.
Over in the bad social media place, an account called @CUJewsIsraelis (Columbia Jewish & Israeli Students) is elated. Apparently Mr. Miner protested against Israeli genocide.

The shocking move is part of a wave of crackdowns on free speech against students and workers who have spoken out and protested for peace and against the war on Gaza.
As the UAW has emphasized, the assault on First Amendment rights being jointly committed by the federal government and Columbia University are an attack on all workers who dare to protest, speak out, or exercise their freedom of association under the US Constitution.
It is no accident that this comes days after the federal government froze Columbia’s funding, and threatened to pull funding from 60 other universities across the country. It is no accident that this firing has occurred the day before contract negotiations begin.
It is no accident that the University is targeting a union leader whose local went on strike in the last round of bargaining. It is no accident that this is happening at Columbia University, where student workers won back the right to collective bargaining in 2016.
Trade unionists everywhere, defenders of the Constitution, of freedom of speech, of academic freedom, and of the right of free association, should be appalled and disgusted by the behavior of Columbia University, and should take it for the clear signal it is.
The very fact the institutions which are to educate, esp about history and the atrocities that have occurred, are simply bending the knee and not standing up for what’s right KNOWING FULL WELL THE DIRE CONSEQUENCES is …COWARDLY.
Say what you want about the encampment and its tactics, but it wasn’t a peace movement. Come on. (Nonetheless the protestors should not be expelled by the country.)

Not only is it their right, according to the constitution (that thing people take an oath and die for) and peace (that other thing world leaders have sought for centuries). WTF is going on that even those that head uni have flipped!?
It's starting, they will expand this to others. This is not good. Don't let the Unions fall, SUPPORT YOUR UNIONS. Call your politicians and let them know this is not okay.
Project 2025 in it states to make any and all unions illegal no matter how long they have been around or how big they are. Trump wants to destroy any and all labor unions.
They expelled Robert Burke in 1936 for protesting the German Nazi party and never readmitted him. They hospitalized students in the 60's for protesting. This is who they are historically.
Yup, this is nothing new from the establishment liberal elite. People make the mistake of confusing the students who led protests, historically, with the institutions themselves. These institutions have often been part of the problem, and the students were often protesting them.
