Nothing to do with the merits of the case. I think it's linked to an agreement between FFR and the Top14, where a list of nominated "premium players" could be retained for the national side during the 6N and not released to club duty. Though Ntamack wasn't on the retention list, apparently. 🤷♂️

There's no contractual reason for the IRFU to retain them at camp, which is the crux I think.
But the fact that they went to 20 minute reds without extending the ban lengths of madness to me.
