IMO (which means nothing LOL) a laptop with onboard graphics aint gonna cut it. I would recommend something with a bit of oomph.

I was looking for a work colleague the other day and we managed to find a Lenovo(?) that was under $1800 and would easily run The Sims 4.

What about the SteamDeck? Depending on which hardware option you go with, it would be well under $1000 (lowest is like $650 for the lowest-tier model) and various sources state it's playable on the SD.

Ive wanted a steamdeck for a while (lol i typed steamdick... HA!) but my switch was literally on its last legs and I neeeeed Mario Kart. I was so happy playing it last night, so it's almost forgiven. 😠

Thank you for the Lenovo suggestion! Both she and I absolutely hate playing The Sims with controller or a tiny screen, so I don't think a Steam Deck is gonna cut it unfortunately!

Fair! And same. I wouldnt even play The Sims on steam deck. I think it would be Dinkum, and the whole back catalogue of whatever shit Ive never played.. 😅

The $850 version is meant to be the sweet spot because you can upgrade the SSD later or use SD card storage.

Haha yeah, actually my mum! I should give it a go on Steam Deck since I have one anyway, but I know I'll hate it because I hate it with any controller typically hahaha

Depending on the specs, a non-gaming laptop might do the trick! Integrated graphics have come a long way in recent years. Although I’m reliably informed by my partner that Sims is coded by the devil, so take that with a grain of salt 😅

As for a specific recommendation, Acer has some decent laptops under $2k (the Swift range, I think?), and I was really impressed by one of Lenovo’s recent laptops. I can take a look if there’s a price range in mind!

Seconding Lenovo's laptops! Asus also has some real good ones. For budget, I'd say between $1.6-$2K is what you're looking at for Sims 4 + expansions on high / smooth settings.
