I nearly stormed out of something with bigoted family at Christmas and just settled for firmly disagreeing and then finding multiple excuses to leave the table eg loo or get meds.
Sometimes it's better to leave, lie about you having diarrhea if necessary, you can set camp in the toilet and never come out again until everyone has gone to bed (scientifically proven by May T.)
Sadly we were out at a cafe for my latest one (in the middle of nowhere, and I can't drive). And the cafe had ONE toilet for everyone, including disabled people so even just crying in there caused a queue.
Damn you were cornered 🫂 at that point I would have asked the workers if I can entertain them for free in the kitchen, I'll keep everyone happy if it means I get to ignore my family for the rest of the night 🤣
Might be others just waiting to see someone stand up.
