It's normal enough everywhere for a daddish bloke to act the clown and outstay their welcome in the competition, and we're not the only country to have had a dancing priest.

But elsewhere the finalists usually deserve to be there.

The other issue lurking in the background is in order for these goofy dads to overperform in the public vote, someone else has to underperform. And the stats suggest that women of colour tend to get voted out earlier and against the run of play.

In the Irish one you get a few participants who think they're above it. And yet there they are.
