I still feel like blue clusters (e.g. New England, West Coast) seceding would be desirable so SOME sort of havens against Trump et al. would exist. I’m aware enough that wouldn’t save everyone, but it’s better than nothing.

Sweeping generalizations about a portion of landmass are very unhelpful. The only reason there ARE "Red States" is because they wormed their way into the government and made a foothold.

The people who suffer through it are not at fault.

Taking joy in the suffering of red states also treats a large number of people as a lost cause, rather than potential allies and victims of the same system. And if we treat intolerance as unique to certain areas, then we won't see it in our own communities.

I'm in Kentucky. 5 minutes to my east is West Virginia. I'm at the redneck nexus of the universe. I don't think there are good people here. I'm outnumbered a million to one. I am an aberration. These people would hunt me in the streets if the fuhrer told them to. There is no saving the south.

I understand and appreciate you saying that. But man, there is this idea that the south is a secret ally or their better instincts will prevail. These people are begging for permission to kill. Eager to hate in the open without consequence. The evil in these mountains can't be underestimated.
