GitHub stars make a tremendous difference to open source projects. It helps so much with discovery and trust and, honestly, maintainer motivation. Don't forget to star stuff!

The other sites grifters have ruined that a bit too, I saw a repo for an app with thousands of stars, started using it and was full of bugs. Owned by one of the 'digital influencers'.
