I am not sure about their own AI actually. The money and capability just isn’t there and doesn’t look like its gonna be there anytime soon.

Between this and the “buyouts” it looks like the industry might be trying to pivot towards a soft landing before the AI bubble pops.

I hope so. Their language saying they remain bullish tells me they are playing nice with their investors still. I wouldnt be surprised if they dropped something and touted it as their own proprietary AI engine.

But to your point, if they had it ready, they would've announced it already.

I see it a bit like EA getting gunshy with "AI" nonsense. There remains a pretty solid stigma against the product they call art that the generative slop produces. I've no doubt that they WANT to use it to replace everyone, but they actually have to get people to pay to watch it.

Yeah i agree. Theyre definitely planning their own ai, but i guess compared to low effort slop at best/malicious misinformation peddling at worst, i'll at least trust these guys not to do the malicious stuff.

I kinda see this as Disney and Comcast making sure THE BIG DOGS are the only AI players in town and it sucks because inevitably that just takes away from paying workers while making inferior products.

Hard to know really, but on a very basic level, every business is legally required to enforce their own copyright, or they risk losing ownership of their IP. If Midjourney can use these works for free to sell a service, why should theaters pay for movie licenses and so on.

And there is a 3-year period from the moment of the infringement or the copyright holder finding out about an infringement that the rights holder can file a lawsuit. If they don't do it in that period, they are considered to not care and they are not owed anything.
