The specs say the card will max out at 575Wh. That is also insane! Pair that with a Core i9-14900K and during demanding sections you are going to get very close to the 1kWh...

Wh, and as an extension kWh, are units of energy, not power. PSUs are measured in W. Batteries are measured in Wh (or joules).

Also anyone shelling out for a 5090 for gaming will buy an AMD CPU at this point, it would gain more frames for less money to start with.

I prefer higher resolutions and high refresh rates where possible. Old cards are simply not an option for me. I have a 4070 Super right now and I'm already itching to upgrade so I can take advantage of all the amazing new monitors out there and upcoming.

I mean I’m the same, but there just isn’t any gain. There hasn’t been any significant visual gain since the 20 cards. Nothing in today’s games require this power or upgrades to give you all the frames you’d need. Doubly so if you have DLSS, we’re talking single digit % increases for 1000s dollars.

They’re inflated but usually actually necessary to run a stable stable system. Like you could probably run a system on much less juice but it wouldn’t be very stable and prone to shutdown during power spikes.

Oh this is also true, I forgot the fact that nowadays actually going higher than the min req is advised due to power spikes. It's legit so scary how much power goes through that 12pin at times.

At 4K? Probably very little. But it's nice that the option is there for the future. Being able to do 240hz 4K without DSP is pretty nice, allows high refresh rate monitors that will look even better.

People that play competitive games at high levels will love it as it will enable even faster frame rates at 1080p. It's not just about the raw refresh rate support either. 2.1 offers a lot more bandwidth than 1.4.
