After leaving Midgar towards the start of FF7 on PS1, the party stops in the town of Kalm and Cloud explains his connection to Sephiroth and recounts his time in SOLDIER.
FF7 Rebirth, which picks up just as they arrive in Kalm, uses this flashback as the game's tutorial.
Looking forward to messing around with this. Not a FF guy but I’ve been wanting to give it a try after all the praise, even if I don’t end up finishing it.
Nibelheim is a fairly closed off area compared to the rest of the game so that's probably not the best indicator of overall performance, but that still looks pretty promising overall.
I am so glad they did this. Deck is my main means of playing non Nintendo-based releases, and after Final Fantasy XVI ended up being a bust on the thing, I worried I wouldn't get to play this either. Relieved to see that isn't the case.
I recently played XVI entirely on the deck. Graphics weren’t the best, I’ll admit, but it was completely playable. No crashes and minimal to no slowdowns/sluggishness. Still happy I got to experience the game though as I do not have a PS5.
For real?! I mean admittedly I haven't looked back into it since around the time it launched and everything was doom and gloom. I appreciate the reply more than you know right now.
Sure - happy to share my experience. No patches or anything. The full version ran better than the demo for me. Had to tinker with the settings a bit but there’s a lot of resources out there that give input on settings.
For what it’s worth, I’ve been able to get refunds through Steam (for games purchased on Steam) even after playing a game (I don’t abuse it). So you may consider downloading and playing it, and if you can’t get it to run to your liking, I’d think you’d be able to request a refund.
Considering my tolerance levels for resolution/graphical fidelity after eight years with the Switch as my primary console, I feel like I'll be fine. You're just the first person that I have seen mention they'd played through the entirety of the game on Deck, which I hadn't heard was even possible.

I'm hoping for the best but maybe this is what pushes me to get an OLED 😆
Cant wait to grab it and FF7R on Switch 2 and PC.
I've had it on the brain since the announcement 😂
We play through Clouds memories of certain events

It does slightly concern me that they picked this area and this part of the game in particular to show it off, rather than anywhere in the open.
It's such a big game and the minimum requirements are just a touch demanding. Just would've felt better seeing a more open area for them to show off.
I'm glad my hopium wasn't misplaced, this looks really good!
