Honestly, the Internet Archive is pretty good source for complete rom-sets for old consoles, often available individually or in one big torrent.

I keep thinking about backing up my Steam/GOG library on a seperate hard drive to prevent the inevitable day I'm not able to play any of them anymore :v

This completely ignores the part of our culture in which games are anchored. We don't do the same thing with Rembrandt or Mozart because it's part of the culture. Video games should enter the public domain after a certain age, imho.

I think they will, the issue is that a game published today wouldnt enter public domain until 2119.
