There are like 3 songs used in this game that can make me cry unprompted. What's wild is that two of them have existed for more than a century and never had that effect before. The game adds such heavy context to what it references, permanently transforming it for the player.

What's wild to me regarding that, MYNAH has an entire introductory musical song...cut short by her intro cinematic being corrupted. You have to listen to the soundtrack to hear the whole thing. That is a lot of effort for a rug-pull.

Signalis left such a deep impact on me that recently when I was staying over at a friend's place, he was watching TV and I froze in place as I heard prelude op. 28 being played in some TV show and was questioning my sanity for a bit.

It has inspired so much fan-art, animation, music, cosplay and nigh-countless hours of video essays picking it apart from every angle imaginable.

It is a game that has made people scream, gnash, wail and cry. If you've not played it, I recommend doing so solo. Let yourself wallow in its emotions.

I've said it before, but Signalis is a deeply referential piece of work, but you don't have to have seen any of the art it's referencing to enjoy it.

But when you do recognize it, the game isn't asking you 'Hey, do you remember X?'. It's asking 'What does X mean to you? How did it change you?'.

It's so confident in everything it does. Something I really liked about it was being able to see what their inspirations were but it not feeling like a tired homage or reference to it and making it a wholly new thing.

Indeed. Even when some cut-scenes look like copy carbon of their source of inspirations, it still work in their context. It never feel a case of "I know that ref". Nor it feels lazy, They "steal" from masters and make it their own.
