Only somewhat related, their AI sucks too. My brother-in-law tried it to plan out a couple days in Seattle and first it got his days wrong (entire different month) and then told him to go to a museum during off hours... Like, I'd be a bit less indignant about AI if it actually worked.

Google in particular's strategy seems to be mass forced adoption of a tech that feels "easy" but is rife with inaccuracy and harm, hoping to get impressionable age groups attached to working and playing this way as a business model. Immoral stuff that will have lasting consequences.

Even worse, Google says explicitly that "our filters try to limit access to inappropriate content, but they’re not perfect [and] your children may encounter content you don’t want them to see." Why target a technology at children when you cannot guarantee it will keep them *safe*?

The thing about AI is even if you only train off kid-friendly training data, you can still get wildly inappropriate stuff because it does not have a conscience or filter.

An adult teacher can be filthy privately but wholesome when teaching 7 YOs. An A.I. can't know "drink bleach" is inappropriate.

(it also doesn't have an understanding of context, what words actually mean, what words mean when said together, what is implied by using certain words, etc.
It just has an algorithm that sees pieces of data arranged in certain ways and assigns it a weight based on it's training data and prompt)

Because they’ve figured out that the model where capable people use the tools to become superhuman at their jobs (or replaced entirely) is largely a fantasy, but that breeding dependency such that incapable people need it to accomplish basic tasks has shown tremendous promise.

One day my oldest son felt a small indentation in his forehead, so he naturally started googling. Their handy little AI summary suggested a range of serious, life threatening ailments. After many tears he got a lesson on AI from us. We aren’t ready for AI being shoved down our kids throats.

Just today, that garbage broke all my Google assistant functionality... For the third time!

It would seriously not be that hard to have assitant, instead of saying "I don't know" say "I don't know, would you like me to ask Gemini?" And stop breaking my stuff!

I wish I was kidding. My daughter isn’t getting unsupervised internet access for as long as I can prevent it.
