They call themselves refugees, but they behave like colonizers! "Don't call them skeets" "ohh, too horny" "this is just like Twitter used to be!"
No, actually it's way better.
I'm new here, but you all one it meant cum when you decided to use that word? Cos I'm not gonna be telling my teenage students that I skeeted on the internet.
(Real talk: I don't actually care what folks want to call them, it's just funny to me to poke at those who complain about them being called "skeets". It's always been an inside joke and it remains that way.)
When linguistic change happens rapidly, there's usually some resistance. Personally I'm Team Bleet but I think Skeet is probably inevitable now. In a fortnight it will feel natural and all this will be forgotten. Let's be patient!
You joined the site two days ago. Why are you Team *anything*, and why are you talking about Skeet being "inevitable" when it has been the de facto term we've used here for like a year?
This isn't linguistic change, this is new users adopting to an existing site's culture.
Sorry. Not directed at anyone in particular. Just been seeing it a lot again. Seems maybe a bit insensitive when there are folks being displaced and denied asylum all over the world. Block me if you gotta. Two yelling posts in one day is a lot.
[shrugs] I share your aggravation. I've known enough refugees/people who work with refugees that it feels gross reading the word from people who haven't had to leave behind their physical home, history, and family
Yeah that type of hyperbole is a huge diss to all of the literal refugees on the planet that we are actively distracting ourselves from with platforms like this.
It's especially tacky because there are a lot of people on here who are refugees themselves, or are trying to get the resources together to become refugees.
Surely we can understand the metaphor. And it’s legitimate to acknowledge the violence Musk has wrought by destroying a real global hub and forcing us to rebuild community. We can understand the metaphor without equating our loss with the deep visceral suffering of real refugees.

One of the original chairs of the place complained about folks calling 'em skeets and that sealed the deal.

Fair call.
