Another contribution was Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader from 1989, the 4th part had a character become a dragon involuntarily. Other stories and shows had similar themes, but most had a character forget they were human, or didn't show their inner monologue, these encouraged ideas.

Breath of Fire 2 and Bloody Roar were two separate instance of awakening something in me. One about "wow I like non-humans and dragons better" and Bloody Roar for "okay but what if I can turn into The Creature"
Probably some other ones in media, but those are definitively the ones I remember.

I mean, honestly I was into general expansion and inflation stuff since I was a toddler. As a three year old my parents vouched I had a character “big fat magic boy” who I drew as a circle getting bigger on my Magna Doodle with little scribbles where the head and hands and feet would be.

It was only a decade or so later when I was in a dark place after a friend died and I was bullied out of school for a semester (long story) that I got to have a lot of free time with the home computer and discovered the general inflation spaces and more specifically furry.

my furry awakening was, broadly, Lucario. I think it was specifically the one in Pokémon X + Smash Bros, something about the Lucario in X "taking a liking to you" or whatever made me like him, and then it all went uphill (or downhill) from there !

like I also think of Ord from Dragon Tales but I think PMD really cemented me into the "furry" space in a way.

but I think I just liked the idea of "non-human creatures talking."

I also did see Lion King but other than it just being one of my favorite Disney Movies (Hercules is my absolute favorite) I don't think it did *too* much.

Bug's Life may have done something too but I think that did more for my general thing for insectoids.
