Fun thing you get to do with cats, a million times a week, is even though you know there's absolutely no way they got out, if you don't see them for an hour you freak the fuck out.

My furry son got grounded for scaring me like that. I was going to lift his curfew tomorrow night, but the little bugger slipped past me somehow while letting his mom in or out. His 9 pm curfew is now anytime after 8:30 when he's in my half of the house.
There is a doppelgänger of my cat that comes to visit, absolutely freaks me out very single time if I see it through the window or on my outdoor cameras.
I was driving home and saw one of my cats crossing the street a block from home. Wondering how she got out, I stopped and called to her. Of course she ran off. I quickly went home to get some treats to take back out with me. I walked in the door and my cat was sitting there looking at me.
If they're too quiet in the other room, I have to go check on them to make sure they're ok. One likes to hide in the under sink cabinet cuz the other one can't get in.
Cat disappeared. She didn't make any noise when I called, didn't make any noise when I shook the treat bag. I checked all her hiding spots, checked all the doors and windows to make sure they were secure. Eventually she just appeared, sitting in the middle of the living room, staring at me
First time she didn't even show up for treats. At least now I know she has a new hiding spot when she just wants to get away from all the stresses that come with being a pampered house cat
Abby disappeared and I couldn’t find her. Until I remembered the last time she disappeared and opened the closet door on my side of the bedroom. She was there for hours and never said a thing.
The cats and I are doing an incessant inventory of one another at all times. Also the little one ran out today when I answered the door but he was chased and retrieved.
Just did that tonight. Didn’t see her all night. Run around the entire house. Still can’t find her. Sit down in sofa to catch my breath and tell my husband I can’t find Miss Kitty and then I hear the little bell jingle and she walks around the couch yawning. Still have no idea where she was. 😂😂😂
I have an internal tracking system that is really good. But when it hiccups and I wonder which cat I left in or out. The search begins. Then I don’t find them. And they pop up out of the blue later for food.
It’s so great to completely search a room, top to bottom, to have your cat nonchalantly walk out of the same room after you’ve started to have a meltdown. Makes me feel so sane.
Also convinced cats have figured out how to manipulate the space time continuum.
This is why I got my two furballs collars that hold an AirTag. The tags allow me to assure myself that they are still in the house. It also allows me to find exactly where in the house they are. The tag will even play a sound that doesn’t freak my cats out!
