I have a complicated relationship with the Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. I so very badly want it to be good, but it’s so hard not to see the wasted potential. I end every episode with the urge to consult the lore and see what the books say.

It’s genuinely fun to go down a rabbit hole of how many of the dwarves rings of power survived until the end of the Third Age. And whatever happened to all of the Palantiri in the end (thanks Arvedui for losing two in a shipwreck).
But it also leaves me sad that the show doesn’t have the rights to the bulk of the Second Age content. Which makes the show feel like fanfiction written while you’re waiting for the final book in the series to come out. And the final book is so great, but also invalidates much of the fanfiction plot
The show feels too rushed. Give me more time with Numenorean political drama! Let the plot lines that matter breathe, and don’t waste my time with plot lines that don’t go anywhere and aren’t connected to anything.
