When I was diagnosed with lupus at 36. I had no choice but to apply for CPP disability. I remember someone saying "you're lucky". I didn't feel lucky I was dying at the time. I often wonder how I would have made ends meet without that safety net. It's not something anyone wants to go on.

I had stage four cancer, radiation, chemo and a partial neck dissection - paid for by Canada and my taxes.

Of course we can and should strive for better, but I certainly wouldn’t trade Canada for the U.S.
