According to the authors, simply because "in our dataset, the vast majority (76–82%) of them originated from conservative news domains". The discrepancy is therefore probably due to the databases used. A bit misleading 😉

Sharing without clicking doesn’t mean I haven’t read it. I have multiple devices and even the algorithm that tracks if I’ve read it on the same device doesn’t work. So if I’ve read it a few hours before sharing I’m still asked if I want to read it first.

No it doesn't mean that.

76.9% of Conservative Links were shared without reading.

14.2% of Liberal Links were shared without reading.

Number of Conservative Links were far higher and shared
more frequently so 75% of the total were shared in such a fashion.

It is clearly driven by the split.

Right leaning people click without reading 3/4 of the time, Left leaning people do so 1/7 of the time.

The right wing is driving the obviously problematic behaviour.
