It doesn't fit the time frame, but have you given Living Forest a shot? It has way more depth than it seems to have. Tile placements, deck building and a racing mechanism are intertwined very neatly. And it's french, so it's very very pretty.
I'll have to give it some thought, but off the top of my head The White Castle and Endeavour Deep Sea are two recent midweight Euro favourites that have similar fun action puzzles!
Have you played Cryo from 2021? Stunning design, multi-use cards, personal engine building. I actually don't think anything worth playing came out in the last 2 years
