How do you all feel about the cell phone ban?
To me, it’s like teaching abstinence in schools. Sure, it’s great in principle, but the reality is that kids will use their phones in their everyday lives so why not develop good habits and learn how to use phones responsibly?

I was skeptical at first. I started teaching right before COVID and I loved that students could look up info on phones. Since then, every student in my board has been given a Chromebook so we still have information at our fingertips, without phones.
Reading The Anxious Generation really helped me buy in. Even just small breaks from the phone seem to be effective at breaking the addiction.
I'm teaching lessons from last year and they are consistently 20 minutes too short: that's how much time I was wasting asking them to put the phone down.
