This is gonna be a long response but TL;DR I think they're not bad but not good

So in general I do believe it to the best version of DP (I've played through both diamond and pearl twice- once in English once in Japanese) as well as Platinum twice (with an in progress playthrough of PT in Japanese)

I think what it does well compared to DP is that it feels a bit more modern and I love the addition of the fairy typing to the game and I love the grand underground (for the most part better than the underground)

I also love the free gift Jirachi and Mew which makes those pokemon more accessible

I also love the fact you get multiple TMs instead of just 1 non-reusable TM (and personally I prefer limited usage but infinitely obtainable TMs over infinite usage TMs)

I think the Pokemon selection is really great early on due to the grand underground, I have a goal of using every Pokemon at least once for every Playthrough and the grand underground makes it easier to obtain some mons w/out the use of trading

However, if we're comparing to just base DP

I dislike how you can't transfer Spinda or Shedinja (and I believe Ninjask as well due to it thinking those pokemon were cloned)

I also dislike the lack of hidden power being a TM- which I will understand was removed for SWSH (the latest newest games at the time of BDSP's release)

I think one of my favourite parts of DP (which Platinum didn't have) was the hidden power TM at the start of the game- it made progression easier

I also don't like what they did with the Pokeradar in BDSP as chains can break easily now for no reason rather than being skill based

I thought the games themselves were fine. Good even. The problem was the marketing and fan expectations. I wouldn't call it a remake. I'd more accurately call it an enhanced remaster. Everyone expected it to look like swsh and that's a major cause for the discourse.

BDSP are exactly what they are, Faithfull remakes of pretty shitty games.

they are a shinier piece of shit to the previous piece of shit....

and while that normally means they would be the defacto versions of the game, platinum released which apart form system availability makes these 2 not good
