So glad I got to meet one of my heroes numerous times & even interview him on SiriusXM. One of the greatest of all-time frontmen & perhaps the best Mermaid Parade King Neptune EVER. May his memory be a blessing!

We used to listen to records in my friend Tom's parent's basement. Toward the end of 1975, when I was home from college break, we were hanging out and Randy brought an album to play, "Too Much, Too Soon" by the New York Dolls. One look and I was "You gotta be kidding." 1/4
But he said, listen to it, I think you'll like this. It was already a cutout by then but he was right, I loved it. We both did & he ordered me a copy of it & both of us each a copy of their eponymous first album from a mail order cutout company. But one song, in particular, nailed it for me. 2/4
The combination of Johnny Thunders' buzzsaw guitar (chaotic and squealing, at times sounding like Wile E. Coyote when he's run off a cliff and his feet are flailing before plunging down), Sylvain Sylvain's scrapyard metal fills, and Johansen's poetic, street smarts lyrics are perfect. 3/4
I rank it up there with Iggy & the Stooges' "Search and Destroy" as being among the greatest punk rock songs. This song models joy & abandon. It's both world-weary & incandescent with joie de vivre. 4/4

I said, "Well, I'm a human being"
