It actually all feels so similar to Savile. The BBC at that time didn't understand pop and thought he did, so they heavily invested in him until he was untouchable. The fact that even in the 60s young people must have thought he was a weirdo and would rather have had someone more authentic
to play the Beatles etc but they could only take what they were given, must surely have parallels with Westwood. A new culture appears and they can't handle it but feel obliged to pay token attention to it.
