In the short term, US manufactured kit will be necessary, but the aim should be ramping up UK industry or a combined UK/ EU standard for future production. Also Emergency Powers Act to set UK on a readiness agenda. This is not a drill.

How can one be so obtuse? Starmer is arguing for increase in defence spending to help defend Ukraine, Europe and the UK from Russian aggression. Bringing up the economic benefits of increased defence spending helps to gain support for this. There's nothing sinister in it.

What an idiotic take. Europe is under attack, it needs to defend itself. Ukrainians are now dying because Russia is attacking them. The fact that arming ourselves to deter Russia can boost economic growth is a silver lining on a dark cloud.
