Outraged Democrats took to the Senate floor to protest Senator Padilla’s treatment and called on Republicans to join them. “This is the stuff of dictatorship,” said Senator Brian Schatz, a Democrat from Hawaii. “A United States senator was manhandled, shoved to the ground and cuffed.”
