Mexico is a country, not a continent. And Mexicans, Canadians, and Americans all understand that they’re on the North American content, lol. confusion on this side of the pond.
It has to do with the tectonic plates. Europe is on its own plate, it’s just smashed up against Asia for the moment. It will eventually move away again.
Ural mountain range divides Eurasia in two, but you have a point.
My hot take is trying to divide continents seems dumb.
There's a lot of nuance, like the Central Asians, North Africans, Mediterraneans who have a lot of shared culture and genetics from Asia, Europe and even Africa.
I had high hopes for blue sky. But reading these comments has confirmed that we need stronger science programs. And testing that confirms comprehension, rather than memorization.
Hell, Russia is more in Asia than it is in Europe, which by the way is an historic problem for Russia, which is always felt separate from Europe or at least judged as separate they have a bit of a inferiority complex
Not to mention A LOT of what Western Civ classes credit as European contributions to the world are actually Asian. Would make it easier to just say that knowledge traveled westward by exchange with other Eurasian peoples.
My kids were literally just asking me about this. And I couldn't explain it 😄 but now I can...
It's just regular ol racism. The one constant in history.
yah, but apparently in geography a continent isn't just a land mass. it's connected by culture blah blah (although this is very rude to the middle east, india and central eurasia.)
It makes some sense to split eurasia geographically bc of its size, but the more likely reason is racism.
Humanity will not move forward until we stop 🛑 drawing lines in the soil we all share 🌎
If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, Infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro' narrow chinks of his cavern.
Continents are defined by convention, rather than some strict criteria. I suppose the convention can change if that would serve a purpose, but I don't know what we'd get from re-categorizing Europe.
Welp, Lizzo...
Perhaps... but on the real... I am still reeling from losing Pluto as a planet🤦🏽♀️... I'm cool with the status quo for our continents🤷🏽♀️...
Fun fact: if you ask most people from English speaking countries, they'll tell you there are 7 continents. But elsewhere you'll find answers ranging between 4 and 8 continents.
Yup, not claiming water is man made, I was just trying to demonstrate that if all water was to suddenly disappear it would demonstrate clearly the nonsense of borders and continents etc
There is some geology to continents. They’re large plateaus of mostly Granite rock lighter than the bass salt. That’s the sea floor so it’s sort of floats on a layer of basalt. The open question is should we even consider Africa separate from Asia and should we consider the Americas one or two
Thank you, Lizzo for saying this out loud. And if people are sad about losing a continent, guess what New Zealand and the submerged land around it may actually count as a continent called Zealandia.

PS- You were on my mind as I roadtripped to DC this summer...
Or Asia can be central-eastern Europe? Or Europe can be north Africa?

Europe and Asia are the same continent
Eurasia
I should def hop off.
Geologically supported 😄
