DK64 did not kill the genre, no one game did, what killed it was oversaturation and shooters and open world games becoming more popular. Collectathons were very prominent in the 6th gen, they kept going well past DK64 and had quite a few really well regarded ones like Jak and Daxter.

I love Banjo and would be happy with another one, but not everything has to keep going on. There are so many other great indie platformers that we don't need to wait for Banjo. Plus we have Yooka-Laylee which carries the same spirit, so as much as I love Banjo, I'm satisfied with what we have.

Mario's last new game was in 2017/18 right and after that was a remaster of Mario World 3d with an expansion. And recently Peach got a new game which is still like a spinoff to the Mario games.

It gets funnier when you realize Crash 4 was released 4 years ago and Super Mario Bros. Wonder was released just last year.

Banjo-Kazooie has not had a platformer in forever. Even Spyro's not had anything new outside of a HD remake.

3D platformers have been coming out less and less for years until relatively recently tbh. Even Nintendo was going mostly 2.5D until 3D world and Odyssey came out. But now it's making a comeback with Astro Bot, Shadow Gens, The Crash and Spyro remakes, etc. video would e made sense like 8 years ago
