All artists who wish to make a living by creating and sharing their art, deserve to do so, while making a living that secures them a life of safety with their basic needs met. That is not some fanciful notion. And to add a second point: they deserve their intellectual property respected.

Then that audience doesn’t need to be catered to. Artists have a responsibility and a right to say no to unhealthy myths and ideas. I support authors I genuinely love, without needing them to suffer. I in fact encourage their safety so they can continue writing peacefully. All creatives deserve that

Artists deserve to have their needs met, like anyone else. People also deserve to have access to art as a basic need, as sapient social creatures. We don't have a system that enables either very well. Libraries are a great solution to both problems.

you see this a lot with "why would I pay for patreon or for a printed book when I have the artist's social media," and "why would I pay for published fiction when AO3 exists," and it's like ; because they are people who need to eat. you should support both, celebrate both, and exploit neither.

I think people often forget that writers and artists are, indeed, laborers. and while myself and many others post their work for free, I do not at all begrudge my friends and colleagues who only accept paid gigs or have full pieces paywalled behind subscription services! doesn't make their art bad!
