Now becoming a scarce species in Lothian, 2 dozing Pochard at Gladhouse today. (6 here last month was the highest number seen at the site for 20 years.) And why have we only seen drakes here in the last few years? #birdinglothian

Thanks for this David. Perhaps this is the case although the Gladhouse birds rarely stay more than a day or two and don’t winter. Maybe the females are moving further south or just overfly Midlothian on their way south?
