Writing Question: How do you separate the art from the artist when dealing with fanfic? Like, Lovecraft, Zimmer-Bradley, and recently JKR and Neil Gaiman. I love writing certain fandoms, but am wondering if I’m a “bad” queer for writing in problematic fandoms. Any advice or opinions?

When you use a character or a setting from someone else, you make it your own. You do not need to repeat their mistakes. You are not responsible for what they did or who they are, only what you do.
