Question: Could you build out a draft sheet that takes the parameters of encounter challenge, randomly picks a set of monsters (within a specific decision model), and then calculates to see if the CR is within the limit? It would allow for encounter ...AI !

I think the biggest challenge for that would be just doing it in Excel. Give me an afternoon and a python environment, and I can slay that beast. Hell, I could take your source material, have Excel submit to an open api flask server and run my little model. Hmmm...

But, a lot of my friends are hugely into random tables and encounters. I haven’t considered that for the tool, but I’ll start mulling it over. Could be fun.

I'm thinking if you populate your monsters with meta information (movement type, regionality, context, etc) you could have the designer apply filters and then get a list of monsters that would fall into those categories and then a further filter would constrain the list to the encounter CR.

Thanks, and yes, I think something like Python would be great for that. These really are the tools I use and I always have my ideas outlined before I open this tool. I pick monsters in an arduous process with a lot of story/lore/theme consideration, so I’m not much of a random encounter person.
