Economically I understood that it was to generate less than it will cost to build, possibly without factoring the negative effect on the local existing economy during construction. Has anyone got a link to any independent analysis?

@timfarron.bsky.social This is simply not accurate. Increasing road capacity INCREASES congestion, rather than reducing it. It may sound counter-intuitive, but there's decades of evidence for this. Please support increasing railway capacity rather than building more yet roads.

I’m not convinced it would reduce congestion, usually if increase number of lanes, simply increase number of cars to same level of congestion; wouldn’t reducing speed be better for safety and what about public and active transport

It would just displace the congestion elsewhere and increase traffic as well as increase CO2 emissions.
