Tell you what how about you press the government for an online tool where farmers can input their details and find out if they will be due for IHT.
If 90 odd percent won't be ( as govt says ) then it only effects super rich tax dodgers and problem solved

Tim, the importance of true family farms cannot be underestimated, but it must be possible to protect these families and mitigate against IHT whilst also discouraging the very rich from buying farms simply to dodge IHT?

The changes concern mainly elderly farmers who haven't signed over their farm already to the next generation. If only 500 farms are affected, I suppose these farms and the land will get sold off to the highest bidder eg: private equity.

If caring for the countryside is priority here then we should propose a law to establish a duty of landowners to do that. Giving cash to wealthy landowners is the most inefficient way of achieving that goal I can think of.

Not least because modern farming is devastating to our ecology.
