JC feeling like WWX is his brother. I don't fully think he sees him as his servant either, but not like a brother. WWX sees him like a brother, like family, but I think YZY was able to install into JC the notion that WWX was not family. I don't think anything (and I include the sacrifice here)

The he did "for WWX" are purely for WWX. For a myriad of reasons that I won't expand on bc my friend who is still reading the books follows me.
I think JC has some sort of distorted notion of WWX that he build from childhood based on his parents expectations. As in, WWX is not part of the family +

But he is also not simply a disciple or a servant. In his head, is not like WWX doesn't actually have autonomy to choose his own path, but like there's no valid reason for him to no choose the path chosen for him. Somehow, in his head, WWX is supposed to be his own Yinzhu and Jinzhu.

And WWX deviating from that is much more of an affront than would be a brother choosing to marry out, in instance. He clings to the promises made by children who didn't know any better and didn't know how the world works.

In comparison, as example, if Yanli was the one persecuted by the clans and WWX was the one to marry into the Lan, who in this scenario would be the ones leading the mob against Yanli, he would have no problem standing by her.

As an another example, in au I would love to read about, that there was no war or ghost cultivation, if WWX somehow got the chance to marry into Lan, he would still rage and hate WWX because he didn't comply to the status quo in which they were raised.
