Shit load worse than this. Listen to the Bulwark, focus group podcast. US voters are rejecting progressive positions. U.K. voters are following. Streeting recognises this. It’s time for class politics not identity

They are rejecting them because centrists have not learned how to do political advocacy in this age; instead they are forever triangulating which people experience (rightly in Starmer's case) as lying.
How the fuck do you imagine they're going to win when they're making _exactly_ the same mistakes that the rightward-lurching pandering centrists of the Democrat party did?? What a bizarre expectation.
Thats a good question. Not by insulting its supporters, thats for sure. By delivering on voters' priorities, such as nhs & economy. And learning from Dems' mistakes.
You're advocating for repeating those mistakes and acting apologist for somebody who repeatedly states his support for those mistakes. That's not learning.
How about they introduce a wealth tax? Argue for that. Stop water price rises. Argue for that. Ban foreign funding of politics. Argue for that. Single market entry. Fast fair immigration. Voters are being battered with prices rises, lies about migrants and failing services. Focus there
None of those ideas precludes equality or necessitates Streeting's pandering to far right cυnts or scapegoating of vulnerable groups. He's a thatcherite shitbot.
This article clearly shows Streeting as anti Equal Opportunities. Uncritically citing a tweet using "anti-white" leaves no doubt. The rest is window dressing, just the same as saying "I'm not racist, but..."
I've spoken to voters who don't like "identity politics" but also have trans children who are being bullied in school, or people who think there's too much immigration but adore their newly-immigrated neighbours. There are different ways of talking about it and taking action.
It’s not fecking working now. What is happening now is not working. All of Europe and the US is shifting right on culture and immigration. Manage it. Get what you can. Or go under.
You're not wrong. But you are also assuming that the only way to manage it is to throw people under the bus because Nazis said so. One thing or the other. Not true my friend.
As an American I'm happy to inform you your approach is exactly how and why the US has ended up where it is now: Forgive anything and everything, up to and including genocide, as long as my team are the ones doing it.
It's not class politics at all you're advocating for, it's American failure.
Sorry, I’m in favour of wealth taxes. Letting privatised utilities fail and renationalising them. Raising minimum wages. Not sure I saw that on the Dem ticket.
I'm not really sure what purpose you think deflecting to their platforms not being perfectly identical serves. The point of course is they both made extensive promises about change to get elected in their respective elections and they've both reneged on basically everything and carried on acting...
...like their opposition party. We've already seen the result in the States because of the roughly 4 year head start: pretty much full-on fascism. It's only been possible because of an attitude that one side is good and one is not when they've proven to all be chancers needing wholesale replaced.
"If we don't concede to and deliver far right populists, we'll get far right populists!"
Or maybe, and here's a novel idea, he could try not surrendering to the far right immediately after winning, and show them a better way 🤷🏼♀️
Labour aren't advocating for class politics at all though, they're just doing a weak imitation of the kind of reactionary politics that is currently the zeitgeist
Agree. But class politics today needs a middle and working class alliance. And the right knows large chunks of the older working class and middle class are socially conservative. Streeting is reacting to that.
