I grew up living in a home where my values were not valued. Still, this did not brace me for the disappointment of living in a country that also does not value my values.
I've had a related thought recently: why do I want to live in a country that no longer represents the fundamental American values I've cherished for my entire life?
We didn’t all believe that, but I’m sorry you did & were disappointed. We’re currently watching the media & the billionaires surrender to Trump prior to his being sworn in. When I was a little girl, I used to wonder why all the Jews didn’t leave Germany immediately when Hitler took over. Now I know.
One reason is that even many Jews bought the anti-Zionist propaganda. They truly believed that it wasn't "the Jews" that they were going after, but rather "those Jews."
Sounds damn familiar. Every Republican woman, and every member of an ethnic or racial minority who is a Republican, and every member of the LGBTQ community that is a Republican thinks the same way. I don’t get it, & I never will.
And a country who has so many in it who hate and are so narrow minded. I still believe there’s more of us than them and I’m counting on us all to get it together and show up!
There is no actual reason to believe there are more people like us than people like them. People who don’t show up are not people like us. I think what we have to do is stop making ourselves feel better, face reality, & make decisions as to what to actually do with the power we have.
I try to remember that nearly 50% of those who bothered to vote chose him (77,000,000 voted for him), but 90,000,000 didn’t bother to vote, so the strength of his support is far less than nearly 50%. Closer to 30%.
Thanks for reminder. Seriously hoping that once he's in office & starts his reign of cruelty & incompetence, we, the people, will rise up & demand a Recall. Never been done with a POTUS, but how many times do we hear how 'unprecedented' something is?
At least we see and know the hate we have advantageous others in the past did not. I love this country and will continue to fight as long as I can 💙💙💙🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I don’t even try. The party in charge of this country would rather see women & girls die than allow them to control their own lives & bodies. Their “pro life” laws are killing us, & they are fine with it. I wish I believed in hell, and I wish something would send them there.
By “the country,” do you mean the land mass? I don’t have any problem with the land, it’s the MAGA people I despise. The people who voted for Trump, or didn’t bother to vote, or voted for someone who could never win, and therefore helped Trump win, are human garbage.
Our country is more than this election. I'm still proud to be American. I'm in a blue area, but 1 in 3 voted poorly. I hope that changes in 2026 during mid terms.
Okay. I’ve always lived in a blue area, but since I’m a member of various groups that have undergone genocide, slavery, being denied the right to vote, & being denied the right to control our own bodies by the US gov’t, I’m not exactly proud of this country that’s going backwards in human rights.
I voted for Kamala. First election I voted in 32 years. I believed that strongly. I did what I could. I'll keep doing what I can. I believe in America and the fact that we can once again become what we've been most of my life. I love our country.
I understand that your life has been very different from my life, but since I have never experienced what you experienced, I cannot love this country the way you love it.
I voted in every single election since I was 18 years old. I’m now 65. Perhaps the reason I voted in every single election is I’ve been trying to influence the country to allow all of us to have full human rights, since I’m a member of so many groups that have been denied our human rights by the US.
Perhaps A Day Of Mourning would be most appropriate , given Native American genocide, African American enslavement and American hatred of Migrants and Refugees.
July 4th, 2026 is our 250th anniversary.
Maybe we mourn rather than celebrate, so we can heal.
Yep! My dear partner lives in Toronto so I’m living there part time, the rest in Illinois. My Canadian friends are aghast! They can’t believe there were enough idiots down here who voted for a convicted felon/traitor/Russian asset.
I love it like some might love a sibling. Because I have to. Even though we don’t always get along, there is a natural urge to protect it. And I do love its thoughtfully established foundation of a Constitution and of Rights & a gov’t designed with checks and balances I believe was meant to evolve.
I hear what you’re saying, but that’s the electorate. It’s your fellow Americans that are rapists and rapist (and racist, misogynist, protectionist) apologists. Those are your shitty siblings. Ruining this country.
We have seriously never been in a position to call ourselves the greatest country on Earth. Half the vote was for a convicted rapist and probable child molester. But so long as it's not a black woman, nothing else matters.
Agreed. It's exhausting being even more determined to rise UP. Especially when you know so many want you dead just because you were born with disabilities.
Sure is!!...part of me is sad, the other part is, bring it on...you all voted for the dumb f#ck that showed his true colors, over and over...my care meter is turned off...for all of us in our late 50s to early 60s...good luck with retirement....
You know, they always show good winning over evil in the end, but it is such a disadvantaged side. Evil doesn't play by the same rules. I'm thinking of going the anti-hero route.
I love(d) what we supposedly aspired to be. I was, and am, devastated to find out that there's a non trivial faction of our society that don't actually share those aspirations. Even Ronald Reagan's shining city on a hill vision had something that everyone could rally around. That's gone.
But Biden said you can’t love your country only when you win?
This is just a setback according to Biden.
It’s easy to lose faith in your leader when he doesn’t take seriously the threats to democracy that will come.

Sound familiar?
Just over a quarter of the country voted for the rapist

Sad . . . but true !

For those of us who have it just sounds like people saying that despite the abuse that they still love their abuser.
Love is more powerful than hate. That’s not always true, but in our nation it is true right now.
Instead it's 4 corporations in a trench coat fucking the working class to death, all the while we pretend to have democracy. Cont/
Instead, we end up voting for the least corrupt person that isn't willing to take all of the money offered to them by the 4 corps.
And even then, people still vote against themselves.
The capitalist vs the laborer.
If the US has taught anything to the rest of the world, its that capitalism is a collosal failure.
Sorry for the rant.
It's been a couple days since my last mental break, and I had to get some shit off my chest.
I love the idea of what America can be and should be and I work toward that “will be”.
