Do not join an org. Seriously, avoid anything that, in 2025 USA, is still organized hierarchically, has 501 status, named directors, protest marshals, police lisasons etc. If they're bossing ppl around like it's 2008, fucking run away. Do your own things with your own ppl if you are so inclined
