Prisons might be shrunk but there are classes of prisoners so dangerous they should never be let out: serial rapists and murderers, for instance. Their violence is so ingrained and repetition so likely that no amount of kindness will fix them.

So much of what's wrong in this country would be healed/eliminated if we invested as much in making each other feel safe as we do in guns, hate, violence -- and if we valued compassion and kindness instead of fame and money.
