Well first of all so what. But to be blunt 8% of us prisons are private. They operate under heavy rules and regulations. If something goes wrong Somebody is actually charged. If you don't think that the State isn't profiting off of the inmates as it is you are high as a kite. 8%.

Private prisons should be outlawed. If we the people need to incarcerate others, then those running the jails and prisons should be directly responsible to our elected representatives, and not shareholders who are in line to profit. Our representatives should not be able to own any stock.
