Some people got very pissy with me for saying that their Harry Potter addictions were directly funding transphobia but my point still stands: if you're still spending money on this crap, it is going towards hate & you need to deal with that.

I don't hate Harry Potter, I rather like it a lot, but I despise the things that Rowling says and does to oppress trans people. Don't buy Harry Potter stuff unless it's second hand merch so that none of the money goes to her.

As someone who grew up with these books (was 7 when #1 came out, 17 when #7 did) & was obsessed, it's too much. I was in the UK over the summer & there are stores everywhere filled w/ merch. I saw Miriam Margolyes at Fringe & she said "it's over folks" and I agree! Why are people still so obsessed

I tried reading them (was an adult when they were published), but they're v badly written & derivative, & ending up buckling under the weight of their self-importance. There's a lot of far superior & more original fantasy fiction out there.

It took me a long time, but I no longer consume HP related media or goods. It is hard, because the property is what got me to read and did so much good for me, but I can't in good conscience give that woman any money. She shouldn't get funds for hate

I was massively into HP fandom for several years, I wrote a lot of fics and met my oldest friends there. I had moved on and was ready to think of it as Something I Once Loved, when JKR's bigotry tainted all those good memories.
