RIP Skype.
Wow, it's the end of an era. Microsoft tried many things with Skype in the last 10 years (remember when it was an SMS relay for phones?), but it never stuck. https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft/microsoft-is-reportedly-killing-skype-after-14-years-of-neglect ☠️

These people are delusional.
I have no idea what you can do about Skype, but this won't help Teams (non-enterprise).
Such a fun, traditional messaging app: https://www.windowscentral.com/groupme-new-features-voice-video-calls
Bring back the shake/nudge feature.
But, noooo ... it pushed Skype and now Teams even though younger people (college) use GroupMe.
They should migrate the Teams(Free) and Skype users to GroupMe. Then rename GroupMe as Skype.
People need a separate app for personal communications.
Why would a friend invite you to a business application. It feels so uncool.
Teams is Teams. There is no place for that in the hearts of consumers.
MSFT never learns.
Maybe. This is the standard these days. Google Meet, Google Chat, Apple ... well, anything, require those Google/Apple accounts.
I'm not sure it helped, but I don't think there's much evidence that these things hurt, either.
While it may have some perception issues, it's also literally used as a verb, e.g., "I'll Skype you later on," the golden dream of some in marketing (although overuse can result in loss of that IP, aka "genericide")
And Teams is def not better or as well-known.
